History
A Georgian country house situated on the Queensberry Estate in Dumfriesshire, Dabton House was designed in the classical villa style by celebrated English architect William Atkinson in 1820. Atkinson was more widely known for his Gothic style, and undertook wide ranging private commissions over an illustrious career, including Scone Palace, Abbotsford and Chequers, the UK Prime Minister’s rural residence.
Dabton House served as the home of the Queensberry Estate’s factor until it was refurbished in the 1980s as the family home for the then Earl and Countess of Dalkeith. With their four children having grown up here, the family continues to spend time at the house to this day, which gives it the feel of a much-loved family home.
